Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold Indian equities worth Rs 6,121.40 crore on Wednesday. That was more than double the Rs 2,961.30 crore they sold on Tuesday. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought Rs 4,596.60 crore, according to the NSE's combined FII/FPI and DII cash-market data.
The selling came on the day the Reserve Bank of India raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% — its first increase in nearly four years.
FIIs bought shares worth Rs 12,578.00 crore and sold shares worth Rs 18,699.30 crore during the session. DIIs bought Rs 18,707.00 crore and sold Rs 14,110.50 crore.
The FII outflow was the second-largest of October so far, after Rs 9,484.22 crore on October 1. DII buying offset about 75% of the FII selling on the day. The combined net flow for the session was negative at Rs 1,524.80 crore.
FIIs have sold a net Rs 23,266 crore this month. They have been net sellers in all four sessions of October so far. DIIs have been net buyers in all four sessions, with cumulative buying of about Rs 24,909 crore.
