Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares fell 6%-8% amid concerns over progress by Chinese chipmakers. Elsewhere, the Nikkei 225 declined 2%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.3%. Brent crude fell 0.5% to around $106 a barrel, gold prices retreated to $4,170 an ounce and the Dollar Index held above 102. GIFT Nifty signals a positive start for Indian equities. In India, the Sensex and Nifty settled at the day’s lows on Monday, with the Nifty closing below 22,400. FIIs were net sellers of equities worth ₹1,708 crore, while DIIs bought ₹3,045 crore. The rupee recorded its biggest single-day gain since April 2, closing at 95.75 per dollar. India’s 10-year bond yield rose to 7.4%, its highest level since March 2023.
