The Closing Auction Session CAS) of Sensex saw sharp swings on October 22 with the benchmark index crashing nearly 2% to 72,275 in two minutes during indicative close.
On October 22, the Sensex closed 460.30 points or 0.62% lower at 73,249.39, and the Nifty ended 123.70 points or 0.54% lower at 22,687.65. About 1,385 shares advanced, 2,764 shares declined, and 179 shares were unchanged.
Wild swings on F&O expiry days have been a common occurrence since the introduction of CAS in August.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India recently said that from December 7, derivatives contracts on expiry days will once again be settled using the volume-weighted average price of the last 30 minutes of regular trading.
The move follows backlash from traders amid sharp swings in stock and index levels after the CAS was implemented on August 3, which prompted some to scale back on trading activity.
