Core Development: Live: No expiry day jitters! Nifty sails above 22,500; Rupee extends recovery | Closing Bell

Market & Financial Impact: Indian markets shrugged off the expiry-day nerves on Tuesday, with the Nifty sailing above the 22,550 mark and the Sensex surging over 700 points. The Nifty gained around 200 points, led by a powerful rally in IT stocks. The Nifty IT index emerged as the top sectoral performer, jumping 4%, as a reversal in the AI trade lifted sentiment across the tech pack. HCL Tech was the star of the session, soaring 7% after an upbeat Q2 performance, while TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Tech Mahindra rallied 3-6%. The broader market told a different story. Breadth stayed weak, with declines outnumbering advances. Smallcaps saw profit-booking and the index slipped 1%, while midcaps stayed rangebound with a negative bias. Pharma and energy stocks also remained under pressure. Among Nifty 50 stocks, HCL Tech, TCS and Tech Mahindra were the top gainers, while Kotak Mahindra Bank, Max Healthcare and Maruti were the biggest losers. On the macro front, the rupee gained 40 paise to 95.3 per dollar from yesterday’s close of 95.7, and Brent crude held steady above $105 per barrel. Globally, US futures were mixed ahead of key bank earnings, with JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo set to report results. Asian markets were weak, with the Kospi down 6%, and the Nikkei and CSI 300 slipping between 0.2% and 1.8%.
