Commodities exchange National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) is likely to launch four indices soon, two of which will be equity-focused and two agriculture-linked, according to sources.
The equity indices will likely be announced on October 22, while the agriculture indices are expected to be announced soon, said people in the know.
On the equity front, the two indices set to be launched will be focused on large-caps and financial services. The exchange received in-principle approval from the markets regulator SEBI to launch its equity and equity derivatives segment on July 29, 2025.
According to media reports, the exchange has planned to defer its equity derivatives launch until June 2027, with weekly and monthly contracts planned. The delay comes as SEBI reportedly required a six-month gap between the launch of cash equities and equity derivatives. The regulator wanted to ensure sufficient liquidity in the cash market before derivatives trading was launched.
On the agriculture front, the exchange is likely to launch its guar and spices indices, which have been discontinued since February 2022.
