Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) returned to selling in Indian equities on Monday, offloading a net Rs 1,462.49 crore. They had bought a net Rs 887.65 crore on Friday. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued their support, buying a net Rs 2,609.57 crore, according to the exchange provisional data.
FIIs bought shares worth Rs 9,324.90 crore and sold Rs 10,787.39 crore during the session. DIIs bought Rs 17,389.57 crore and sold Rs 14,780.00 crore.
The fresh FII outflow takes October’s cumulative FII selling to roughly Rs 52,930 crore. The largest single-day outflow remains the Rs 12,943.58 crore seen on 8 October. DIIs have been net buyers in the large majority of sessions, with cumulative buying for the month now exceeding Rs 61,700 crore. That continues to more than offset FII selling, leaving the combined net flow for October still positive.
On a year-to-date basis, FIIs remain heavy net sellers in the range of Rs 4.5 lakh crore, while DIIs have absorbed well over Rs 7.1 lakh crore.
Indian equities ended higher on Monday, snapping a four-day losing streak. The Nifty 50 closed at 22,753.20, up 153.20 points or 0.68%. It opened at 22,524.40, saw a strong bullish move in the first hour driven by short covering, and later consolidated to finish near the day’s high. The Sensex also recovered well from early lows.
