For India's financial distributors, mutual funds may be the starting point, but they are no longer the only avenue to explore. Portfolio management services (PMS), alternative investment funds (AIFs), insurance and fintech are creating a wider business landscape for professionals looking to expand their offerings and build stronger distribution businesses.
The scale of these segments shows why the opportunity deserves attention.
India's PMS industry managed assets worth Rs 43.3 lakh crore in June 2026, while AIFs had raised commitments of Rs 17.53 lakh crore by the same month.
At the same time, India's insurance industry collected total premiums of Rs 11.93 lakh crore in FY25. Meanwhile, the country had 10,244 fintech entities as of July 2024.
For distributors and advisors, these numbers point to a financial services ecosystem that extends well beyond mutual funds. The aim is not simply to add more products, but to understand where they fit, what expertise is required and which business opportunities are appropriate.
