A small purchase of gold and silver every Dhanteras, held consistently over 21 years, could have grown into a combined investment worth nearly Rs 7 lakh today. An analysis by Kotak Neo, tracking purchases made on Dhanteras between 2005 and 2025, shows how an annual investment in precious metals would have multiplied over time.
The exercise assumes that an investor bought 1 gram of gold and 100 grams of silver every Dhanteras, at the prevailing spot prices, and held on to the purchases. Valued at prices on November 5, 2026, the results show that both metals delivered substantial gains over the period.
An investor buying 1 gram of gold every Dhanteras for 21 years would have accumulated 21 grams of gold at a total cost of Rs 76,246.
At the November 5, 2026 price of Rs 1,44,000 per 10 grams, the accumulated gold would be worth Rs 3,02,400. That represents a gain of Rs 2,26,154, or nearly four times the original investment.
The annualised return on these dated purchases works out to 15.4% a year.
