Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty pared their losses on October 23 due to various reasons, including value buying.
At 2:06 pm, the Sensex was down 190.30 points or 0.26% at 73,059.09, and the Nifty was down 122.85 points or 0.54% at 22,564.80. About 604 shares advanced, 340,4 shares declined, and 125 shares were unchanged.
Value buying emerged at lower levels as the indices already fell for three straight sessions. Sensex rose 600 points from day's low while Nifty reclaimed the psychologically important 22,550-mark.
In the 50-stock index, Eternal was the top gainer, up well over 2%. The stock likely got a boost after rival Swiggy's earnings for the September quarter disappointed the Street. Information technology majors, Infosys, HCL Technologies, and Tata Consultancy Services posted modest gains. Infosys is slated to report its earnings for the September quarter later in the day.
IT shares like TCS, Infosys were trading in green after a more than 2% drop in the Nasdaq composite index overnight.
